How did you get into trail running and connect with the ITRA running club?
I started running trails with a colleague over 20 years ago at Eagle Creek. I met Terry Flectcher through Corporate Challenge around that same time.He told me about this great group of trail runners that I should run with. I was too intimidated, but finally decided to run with them in 2014. That’s when I met Debi Alexandar, Steve Decker, and Erik Mroz. I knew I was in the right place, immediately!
What is your favorite memory with ITR?
That’s not easy to narrow down – There are so many! I guess I have to say one of those was National Running Day in 2014 (I may have the name incorrect). It’s like the 1st Wednesday in June. Several running groups in the Indy area came together to run at Eagle Creek (EC). That’s when I met Rob Dally, who I’m now married to! 😊 Does our wedding day count as an ITR memory since many of our ITR buddies were there to help us celebrate?
Also, I remember a recent end of year party at Bier Brewery after COVID. There was a pretty good guitarist there and by the end of the night, he had us all singing “Sweet Caroline” (I know it’s not everyone’s fav – LOL!). Joe Cagle may have even recorded that one for posterity. Anyway, I think we were all craving the chance to get together in person and just having fun.
What is your favorite trail?
Even after 20+ years, I still love Eagle Creek (inside and the west side)! – I guess it’s the memories. One of my former running groups (the Half-fast runners), would meet there every Wednesday night and we would bring food (and maybe some beverages😉) for after. We just met a couple months ago (even though we are now defunct), to have a celebration of life for one of our former running buddies – Patsy Popejoy. ☹️
Are you currently planning for any trail races or hiking adventures?
No races, but Rob and I just hiked all the trails at Hocking Hill in Ohio (see pics). Pretty amazing those trails are in the Midwest. We are planning a hiking trip to Alaska in 2026.
Bucket list trail you want to explore?
Is the moon an option? Hey, I’m a Boiler and we aim high! 😉 But, seriously, I’m up for suggestions. Particularly, in the Pacific Northwest.
